How to Log and Transfer Panasonic GH2 AVCHD/MTS to FCP for Editing?
Import/Convert Panasonic GH2 AVCHD Lite to ProRes 422 for FCP Editing on Mac OS X Lion

Through Google search, I found many question about "How to import HD Camcorder AVCHD to Final Cut Pro?" Such as:

Question 1: Editing GH2 Video in Final Cut Pro?

It has been at least 6 years since I have done any video at all. I am tempted to get a GH2 purely for its video capabilities. I have Final Cut Pro and could upgrade it to Final Cut Studio. I also bought a GF1 the other day and have played with the video which appears to be in an unfamiliar format but which plays on my mac with VLC player. But my question is this - what do I need to do with the video from a GH2 in order to edit it in Final Cut? Oh, I am in the UK and only deal with PAL.

Thanks

Question 2: Panasonic GH2 video files not compatible?

iMovie (and Final Cut) cannot import the mts video files from the latest video cam by Panasonic the GH2

BTW: RAW photos also dont import in iPhoto..

Apple is not ready for the GH2 yet.... Hoping for an update soon

. . .

For these problems, there are a lot of people have been given the answer, I probably visit some solutions and found that most of the answers are not detailed on "How to Log and Transfer avchd files to FCP for editing"? Reference was made to "convert AVCHD MTS to ProRes 422 codec". However, the details of this conversion process is no one answered, so I decided to write a solution.

As we all know, The Panasonic DMC-GH2 can record high-resolution full-HD 1920 x 1080 avchd movies in astonishing smooth 60i (NTSC) / 50i (PAL), doubling the sensor output from 24p / 25p to 60p / 50p. Final Cut Pro is supposed to support AVCHD Lite import, but it does not work very well. If you encounter any problem using GH2 AVCHD Lite on Mac, or want to edit Lumix DMC-GH2 1080 AVCHD in FCP or FCP 7, it is recommended that you convert DMC-GH2 full HD to common MOV for FCP/FCP 7. So you may face the rendering problem when editing in Final Cut Pro. To avoid waiting for rendering in Final Cut when editing, it is recommended want to transcode GH2 MTS to ProRes 422 for FCP native format.

Apple ProRes, Apple ProRes 422 , Apple ProRes 4444, introduced in Final Cut Studio, was advertised to one of the codecs to result in less compression and higher data rate/higher quality files for HD editing in Final Cut Pro.

The following is the detailed steps:

Step 1. Import GH2 AVCHD raw files to Pavtube Video Converter for Mac.

After converting Panasonic DMC-GH2 AVCHD footage, just import the output Apple PreRes 422 .mov files to Final Cut Pro 7 or Final Cut Pro 6 for editing and the video is in HD 1920×1080. Optimize your workflow and save time with the Apple ProRes compression for Final Cut Pro. You can also import the output videos to iMovie or Final Cut Express (FCE) 4 for editing in full HD.
